Escape the “Recession Depression”
02/03/2009
Does it seem like everywhere you go, there is morbid news about the economy? There is no doubt that there is a global financial meltdown occurring right now. One just has to listen to any news source for 2 minutes to understand this phenomenon. And on one hand, especially in the US of A, we are forced to look at how we save, invest, and spend out money.
Looking at the history of the US, we seem to revel in Freedom – and what it often means to us is to “have the freedom to do what we want, when we want.” To some this may appear as the pinnacle of human accomplishment. To others, this may appear to be a recipe for disaster = a.k.a., hedonism.
We are all living the humbling lesson of living within our means versus the bloatation (yes that is a new word) of America that has been occurring for the past several decades. We are having to think twice about buying our 4th vehicle or 3rd home. Or for the majority of us, really looking at how to hold onto our jobs, make better income, and do more than just scrape by.
What is often NOT being talked about is our personal economy and how we have control over our own relationship to money, how to generate it, and how to invest smartly. Our personal economy is a template based on our own family lineage’s relationship to money, our culture’s relationship to money, and our own early experiences around how we conceive of money and value.
We can all agree that the general economy is tanking, but this is separate from our personal economy. Yes they can be inter-related, and at the same time, can be distinct. There are some people right now who are actually investing smartly and making more money than ever in this economy buy paying attention, researching, and not falling into a scarcity mentality.
My own coaching business has been growing in the past half year and a big reason for this is how I have restructured my own personal economy and not fallen into the fear-trap of our incessant media buzz.
